Framework & Structure

The WSA-mobile is based on the expertise, mechanism and network of the World Summit Award (WSA). The WSA-mobile global contest is planned to be held every two years. The first Winners’ Gala took place in Abu Dhabi in December 2010 in cooperation and along with the UN DESA GAID Global Forum. The second  WSA-mobile will be held in 2012, with the Winners' Gala again in Abu Dhabi. National pre-selections for the WSA-mobile run through experts in respective countries.

All activities of the World Summit Award are conducted within the framework of, and in cooperation with the United Nations’ World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), mandated by the WSIS Plan of Action and executed in collaboration with UNESCO, UNIDO and UN DESA GAID. The World Summit Award is the flagship initiative of the Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID).

The WSA and WSA-mobile organization office is based at the International Center for New Media (ICNM) in Salzburg, Austria.
