Making the Information Society reality, that is the purpose of the World Summit Award Network, the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and of its strategic partner, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the United Arab Emirates.  The WSIS Forum 2011 was held from 16 to 20 May 2011 in Geneva, Switzerland. The Forum provided structured opportunities to network, learn and to participate in multi-stakeholder discussions and consultations on WSIS implementation.

H. E. Mr Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim (DG, TRA, UAE)Amongst the participants was Prof. Peter A. Bruck, Chairman of the World Summit Award, which was created during the WSIS 2003. Bruck presented newest trends in the field, most clearly by giving outstanding examples of WSA and WSA-mobile winners in the fields of e-Government, e-Business and e-Health.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the United Arab Emirates, Key Partner of the World Summit Award Mobile (WSA-mobile), took the role of a strategic partner for this WSIS Forum. H. E. Mr Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director-General of the TRA, elaborated on the UAE WSIS Experience and stated: "We are very grateful to the ITU for giving us an opportunity to extend UAE’s partnership and support to the WSIS Forum 2011 and we are equally honored to share our successful experience with you." The Forum, builing upon the tradition of annual WSIS May meetings, was hosted by ITU and jointly organized by ITU, UNESCO, UNCTAD and UNDP. It took place at the ILO Conference Center.
